Description

Some songs are written for a room. This one was written for a field at four in the morning.

“Thank God I’m a Farming Girl” is a straight-ahead country anthem for the women who do the work: the ones up before the rooster, the ones with dirt under their nails and a callus on the sole of every boot. It doesn’t romanticize the life. It honors it.

WHAT YOU’RE HEARING

Acoustic guitar and banjo carrying the drive, fiddle answering the vocal, upright bass and brushed kit underneath. A female lead with grit in it, backed by a harmony group on the chorus. Recorded warm and live-feeling, the way country is supposed to sit.

THE LINE EVERYONE QUOTES

They say this life is dying out, but they don’t see the truth: it’s a brand new crop of tomorrow, growing in these old cowgirl boots.

That’s the whole song in one verse.

WHAT IT’S ABOUT

The coffee on at four a.m. and the barn light thrown across the frozen rows. Fifty head to water. A fence line that needs repairing and a heifer who’d rather be somewhere else. A granddaddy who broke the ground with a mule and a prayer and left behind something rarer than money. And the verse in the middle that every farmer knows by heart, when the season fails and the bank note comes due, you go stand in the field and say what farmers say: the ground is Yours, and I’m just borrowing the row.

Then it turns. The tempo lifts, the fiddle takes a solo, and the song finishes the way a good day on a farm finishes, with a call and a response and a whole lot of prayer.

WHO IT’S FOR

Farm girls. Farm wives. The ones who married into it and the ones born to it. Anyone who has ever looked at a field and felt something they couldn’t explain to a city.

And anyone who just wants a country song with a spine.
